WORKING VISA

Once a telephone interview has been completed and an applicant has been informed of a positive result, then the process of raising a full working visa needs to be address. (Please refer to our other page regarding “Working Visa”)

If by chance you have had a telephone interview without all required documentation having been submitted (as listed below) you shall be informed as to what documents are still required before your application can be submitted to the Department of Immigration.

Once all these documents have been received, then the submission shall be in effect. If you do not wish to summit originals to the Department, then

  • Resume
  • Copies of your university degree/s
  • Copies of your teaching certificates
  • Letter stating why you want to live and work in Japan
  • Copy of a current photo
  • Copy of your Driver's License (International Driver's Permit will be required prior to your arrival)
  • Copy of your passport
  • Date of availability
  • Contactable references

Depending on the time of the year, the Department of Immigration Japan takes approximately 6 – 8 weeks to process an application. At certain times of the year this time is as short as 4 weeks but then it is possible that it can take up to 3 months to receive an applicant’s Certificate of Eligibility. Typically this extra length in time occurs during peak recruitment time which is from December to March each year.

Once the company has received this, it is immediately forwarded onto the applicant with notification being by phone prior to sending the Certificate of Eligibility via air express.

Standard procedure is that the Consulate or Embassy needs 3 – 5 working days to complete the working visa application. The passport is affixed with the applicant’s full working visa. This MUST be done within three months of the issuing date of the Certificate of Eligibility as this is time sensitive. The initial visa is for 12 months. If a person has their contract renewed with the same company, the renewed visa is then typically reissued as a 3 year visa for those that are from native speaking countries.

After this is completed – you are on your way to a new career here in Japan.
