Two types of interviews can be conducted –

  1. In person
  2. By telephone

 

In person

Coming in for the interview at the head office location in Matsuchiro here in Tsukuba. For nearly all applications that are received from potential employees who are applying from with in Japan. This would require that the applicant bring all required documentation with them when they come. The list is as follows –

  • Resume
  • Copies of your university degree/s
  • Copies of your teaching certificates
  • Letter stating why you want to live and work in Japan
  • Copy of a current photo
  • Copy of your Japanese Driver's License
  • Or your International Driver's Permit
  • Copy of your passport
  • Date of availability
  • Contactable references

Ideally, this all needs to be emailed to the company prior to the interview.

The company shall not conduct and interview with a potential teacher if they are only on a Tourist Visa.

The applicant must either have a Work Holiday Visa or a visa of some sort giving them the right to be allowed to stay here in some sort of permanent capacity. This includes a Spousal Visa or a Working Visa preferably the Humanitarian Visa.

Please note - An applicant must be from an English native speaking country and must have been born in a native English speaking country.

The interview shall take approximately 1 hour. After this, if it was successful, then the potential employee shall be given the opportunity to observe some of the current teachers with their respective students. This certainly gives a much more of a hands-on approach to what takes place in the classroom and what is expected of the teachers.

By Telephone

Telephone interviews require that all documentation be submitted prior to any such telephone interview being conducted. Without ALL documents being submitted, there is no way that an interview shall be conducted. These documents include –

  • Resume
  • Copies of your university degree/s
  • Copies of your teaching certificates
  • Letter stating why you want to live and work in Japan
  • Copy of a current photo
  • Copy of your National Driver's License (An International Driver's Permit will required to be issued prior to coming to Japan)
  • Copy of your passport
  • Date of availability
  • Contactable references

The telephone interview could take up to 30 minutes to be completed.

An advantage is for the applicant to have some sort of English Second Language (E.S.L.) certificate from an internationally recognized organization.

Previous experience as an E.S.L. would also be an advantage but not necessary.

Applicants from Canada, Australia, England, New Zealand or American that are already located in Japan are all regarded as being potential employees for the Bernard English School of Japan especially if they are already in the roll of teaching English here and working with the appropriate visa.

Due to the conditional agreement for this type of school as registered with the Department of Immigration Japan, applicants must have their birth place in an English speaking native country.

Must be able to commit to a one year contract. No short term contracts available.
